I emphasize and exaggerate human or animal, facial and physical expression. My work is direct in it's making and expression.
I use a process of rolling different clays together to allow the clay to split, crack, and to add an element of unpredictability. Breaking and using grandma's china in my pieces allows me to preserve memories, and adding old glass or metal, allows predicting effects, and not so predicting effects. My roots are in drawing and painting. My encaustic work is on wood, using oils, wax, and resin. These elements are fused together with heat to form a surface that is durable and cures over time. Encaustic techniques date back to the Fayum Mummy portraits in ancient Eygpt.
I make work that speaks to me, and hopefully others.
